What Your Sleep Position Says About You
British sleep expert Professor Chris Idzikowski has identified six common sleeping positions and found that each style represents a unique personality type.
The positions are classified into Foetus (41%), Log (15%), Yearner (13%), Soldier (8%), Freefaller (7%), and Starfish (5%), with other positions accounting for 11%.
Professor Chris Idzikowsk stated:
We are all aware of our body language when we are awake but this is the first time we have been able to see what our subconscious posture says about us. What’s interesting is that the profile behind the posture is often very different from what we would expect.
So what does your sleep position say about you?
The Foetus Sleeping Position
Foetus: This is the curled position resembling the way babies curl up in the womb. This is also the most popular position for women and shows a tough shell but a soft center. These sleepers can be shy and sensitive at first, but open up around friends and family.
The Log Sleeping Position
Log: Sleeping on one side with both arms straight down. These are sociable, open and easy going personalities who love being around people. Trusting of strangers and may also be more gullible than most.
The Yearner Sleeping Position
Yearner: Sleeping on one side with both arms stretched out. Yearners are cautious of strangers and often suspicious and cynical. Generous once they are confident of people and their motives. Usually, slow at making decisions but stick to decisions once they’ve been made.
The Soldier Sleeping Position
Soldier: Sleeping on their backs with arms down and kept close to the body. Soldiers are mostly reserved, quiet and somewhat introverted. They don’t like confrontation but adhere to high standards, and are perfectionists.
The Freefaller Sleeping Position
Freefaller: Sleeping on their front, or side, with arms under or wrapped around a pillow with head turned to the side. Freefallers are extroverts who love and enjoy socialising but can be overly sensitive and do not respond well to criticism.
The Starfish Sleeping Position
Starfish: Sleeping on their backs with arms and legs outstretched. Generally open to new ideas, these are good listeners who prefer to stay in the background rather than be the centre of attention.
